MTA Long Island Bus

Founded in 1973 under the name Metropolitan Suburban Bus Authority by the combination of ten privately-chartered bus companies. The system consists of 417 buses running 54 routes covering 995 miles (1,601 km). LI Bus is part of a regional transportation network with bus/rail connections at 48 LIRR stations and service to five NYC Transit subways.

CLIENT NEED

Long Island Bus with cooperation from Long Island Rail Road, built an Intermodal Transportation Center in Mineola. Long Island Bus wanted to create a signage system that would provide train and bus customers coming with information about connecting service.

SOLUTION

acire staff conceived a system similar to a flight information display system used in airports. The Trans Assist program provides transit and train operators with a dynamic messaging system to display scheduled bus and train information in real-time. The system includes a web-based interface where the Long Island Bus can manage route data, post rider alerts, bulletins, messages and advertising.
